House Du Plessis

INTRODUCTION
House Du Plessis is located high up in Westcliff overlooking the beautiful Ridge. The clients required a 5 bedroom house that makes optimum use of the Southern views across the Ridge, whilst also having enough warm outside and inside living spaces.

RATIONALE
The site is a panhandle that opens up toward the Southern view as it slopes down the steep rocky landscape. The house is made up of layers which navigate between the various key elements of the building. The garage becomes the security barrier between the open entrance/ driveway and the private secure house behind it. The northern courtyard between the house and the neighbouring property caters for the outdoor living as the upper level living spaces open up and spill out into this courtyard completely. The living spaces on the first floor are contained, whilst bringing the beautiful southern views in through large framed openings. The lower level contains all the bedroom spaces. With its closed back the spaces become more intimate and secure, again overlooking the ridge. The whole house floats above the natural landscape overlooking the Westcliff ridge toward the south whilst securely grounding itself on the northern side with its layered yet completely open living spaces.
